The 18th Slow Food Festival launches in Aylsham on its traditional October weekend featuring local food and drink producers, crafts people and entertainers as well as all the old favourites.

From street food to indoor markets, home-grown vegetables to fresh-baked food, artisan beer and local wines, the family-friendly festival is a celebration of Norfolk’s diverse and thriving food and drink scene.

The three-day event opens on Friday 4 October with the ever-popular cooperative Country Market, which has been around for more than 40 years selling home-baked, home-made, home-grown produce in the Town Hall.

And how else to launch a food festival than with a “fine dining experience” – but not at a posh restaurant.

The ever-resourceful students at Aylsham High School prepare, cook and serve a first class three-course, restaurant-style meal under the guidance of some of Norfolk’s top chefs. The evening includes musical entertainment by the students.

The revamped Food and Craft Market on Saturday will feature street entertainers and a balloon modeller for the youngsters, with more stallholders offering their products in the Town Hall.

Here you will be able to sample and buy Norfolk wine, local gins and spirits, as well as handcrafted goodies.

Saturday night is wine tasting night with choice cheeses at the Friendship Hall.

And then there’s the Big Slow Brunch – the best start to the day and a popular way to end the festival. Families, friends and clubs come together to have a leisurely read of the Sunday papers or simply mardle over a fry-up or Continental breakfast freshly cooked and served by members of Slow Food.

So book now to guarantee a place. Slow Food Aylsham looks forward to welcoming you.
